    The lowest resonance in QCD from low--energy data

    We show that a generalization of su(2)su(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory, including a perturbative singlet scalar field, converges faster towards the physical value of sensible low--energy observables. The physical mass and width of the scalar particle are obtained through a simultaneous analysis of the pion radius and the gamma gamma -> pi^0 pi^0 cross-section. Both values are statistically consistent with the ones obtained by using Roy equations in pi-pi scattering. In addition we find indications that the photon-photon-singlet coupling is quite small.Comment: pdfLatex 15 pages, 3 figure

    Anomalies and WZW-term of two-flavour QCD

    The U(2)_R x U(2)_L symmetry of QCD with two massless flavours is subject to anomalies which affect correlation functions involving the singlet currents A^0_\mu or V^0_\mu. These are relevant for pion-photon interactions, because - for two flavours - the electromagnetic current contains a singlet piece. We give the effective Lagrangian required for the corresponding low energy analysis to next-to-leading order, without invoking an expansion in the mass of the strange quark. In particular, the Wess-Zumino-Witten term that accounts for the two-flavour anomalies within the effective theory is written down in closed form.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur

    Consistency tests of AMPCALCULATOR and chiral amplitudes in SU(3) Chiral Perturbation Theory: A tutorial based approach

    Ampcalculator is a Mathematica based program that was made publicly available some time ago by Unterdorfer and Ecker. It enables the user to compute several processes at one-loop (upto O(p4)O(p^4)) in SU(3) chiral perturbation theory. They include computing matrix elements and form factors for strong and non-leptonic weak processes with at most six external states. It was used to compute some novel processes and was tested against well-known results by the original authors. Here we present the results of several thorough checks of the package. Exhaustive checks performed by the original authors are not publicly available, and hence the present effort. Some new results are obtained from the software especially in the kaon odd-intrinsic parity non-leptonic decay sector involving the coupling G27G_{27}. Another illustrative set of amplitudes at tree level we provide is in the context of τ\tau-decays with several mesons including quark mass effects, of use to the BELLE experiment. All eight meson-meson scattering amplitudes have been checked. Kaon-Compton amplitude has been checked and a minor error in published results has been pointed out. This exercise is a tutorial based one, wherein several input and output notebooks are also being made available as ancillary files on the arXiv. Some of the additional notebooks we provide contain explicit expressions that we have used for comparison with established results. The purpose is to encourage users to apply the software to suit their specific needs. An automatic amplitude generator of this type can provide error-free outputs that could be used as inputs for further simplification, and used in varied scenarios such as applications of chiral perturbation theory at finite temperature, density and volume.     Vector-like fermion and standard Higgs production at hadron colliders

    Vector-like fermions are characterized by large neutral current decay rates, in particular into Higgs bosons. If they exist, their clear signals at hadron colliders open a window to Higgs detection, especially to the intermediate Higgs mass region.     A model of a transition neutral pion formfactor measured in annihilation and scattering channels

    We consider an alternative explanation of newly found growth of neutral pion transition form factor with virtuality of one of photon. It is based on Sudakov suppression of quark-photon vertex.     Radiative corrections to neutral pion-pair production

    We calculate the one-photon loop radiative corrections to the neutral pion-pair photoproduction process πγππ0π0\pi^-\gamma \to \pi^-\pi^0\pi^0. At leading order this reaction is governed by the chiral pion-pion interaction. Since the chiral π+ππ0π0\pi^+\pi^-\to\pi^0\pi^0 contact-vertex depends only on the final-state invariant-mass it factors out of all photon-loop diagrams. We give analytical expressions for the multiplicative correction factor Rα/2πR\sim \alpha/2\pi arising from eight classes of contributing one-photon loop diagrams. An electromagnetic counterterm has to be included in order to cancel the ultraviolet divergences generated by the photon-loops. Infrared finiteness of the virtual radiative corrections is achieved (in the standard way) by including soft photon radiation below an energy cut-off λ\lambda. The radiative corrections to the total cross section vary between +2%+2\% and 2%-2\% for center-of-mass energies from threshold up to 7mπ7m_\pi. The finite part of the electromagnetic counterterm gives an additional constant contribution of about 1%1\%, however with a large uncertainty.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Eur. Phys. J.

    Radiative decays of heavy and light mesons in a quark triangle approach

    The radiative meson decays VPγV\to P\gamma and PγγP\to \gamma\gamma are analyzed using the quark triangle diagram. Experimental data yield well determined estimates of the universal quark-antiquark-meson couplings gVqqˉg_{Vq\bar{q}'} and gPqqˉg_{Pq\bar{q}'} for the light meson sector.     ηη\eta-\eta^\prime mixing and the next-to-leading-order power correction

    The next-to-leading-order O(1/Q4)O(1/Q^4) power correction for ηγ\eta\gamma and ηγ\eta^\prime\gamma form factors are evaluated and employed to explore the ηη\eta-\eta^\prime mixing. The parameters of the two mixing angle scheme are extracted from the data for form factors, two photon decay widths and radiative J/ψJ/\psi decays. The χ2\chi^2 analysis gives the result: fη1=(1.16±0.06)fπ,fη8=(1.33±0.23)fπ,θ1=9±3,θ8=21.3±2.3f_{\eta_1}=(1.16\pm0.06)f_\pi, f_{\eta_8}=(1.33\pm0.23)f_\pi, \theta_1=-9^\circ\pm 3^\circ, \theta_8=-21.3^\circ\pm 2.3^\circ, where fη1(8)f_{\eta_{1(8)}} and θ1(8)\theta_{1(8)} are the decay constants and the mixing angles for the singlet (octet) state. In addition, we arrive at a stringent range for fηc:10f_{\eta^\prime}^c:-10 MeVfηc4\le f_{\eta^\prime}^c\le -4 MeV.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures, To be publshied in Phys. Rev.

    Hard Parton Rescatterings and Minijets in Nuclear Collisions at LHC

    The average number of minijets and the corresponding transverse energy produced in heavy ion collisions are evaluated by including explicitly semi-hard parton rescatterings in the dynamics of the interaction. At the LHC semi-hard rescatterings have a sizable effect on global characteristics of the typical inelastic event. An interesting feature is that the dependence on the cutoff which separates soft and hard parton interactions becomes less critical after taking rescatterings into account.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures.
